Special Considerations for a Mini Fridge

Home Improvement

Modern refrigerators showcase lots of magnificent features, aesthetics, and styles. For generations, refrigerators are known to play a significant role in individuals’ lifestyles. From storing and keeping groceries fresh, having timers, modern refrigerators now remind users of what’s missing for a given recipe.

Ideally, you don’t have to turn everything around to know that your sausages are running out. With advancements in technology, there are many choices on the market with some being mini-fridges. You only need to assess your needs and preferences before buying one.

Which one do I need?

A mini fridge or a minibar isn’t a new term for the single ladies or men out there, students or those who enjoy picnics. Even a working professional can have one in the office. Let’s evaluate the options available here.

A Portable Mini Fridge: It is desirable due to its portability and low space requirement. It is commonly used in dorm rooms or those going on long trips. This type of refrigerator uses thermo-electric technology for optimal cooling and heating.

A Mid-size Mini Fridge: This type uses compressor technology for cooling with a capacity of more than 3 cu ft. It is smaller than an under-counter mini-fridge but bigger than cube-size fridges. It also comes with a separate freezer compartment that requires more electricity.

Under-the-Counter Mini Fridge: This option has a high storage capacity with many types like mini beverage coolers which can cool beverages. Due to its space, it’s ideal for those with minibars at home, but wine will require special treatment.

How does It work?

A refrigerator is an insulated box and contains a storage area surrounded by a closed-circuit system of coils that circulates refrigerant. In simple physics, when a liquid turns into a vapor, it absorbs heat, and when a gas turns into a liquid, it releases heat. A refrigerator consists of condenser coils (either at the back or base), evaporator coils, a compressor, an expansion valve, and refrigerant fluid. The refrigeration system begins by absorbing heat from the inside, and it is then released to the outside.

During the cycle, the compressor moves the refrigerant through the system as it supplies pressure to the warm fluid which heats it, hence turning it into vapor. The vapor will then escape into the condenser coils at the back of the fridge. The vapor travels through the condenser coils and after cooling down, it turns into a fluid again. The fluid then passes through the expansion valve to the evaporator coils. As the refrigerant condenses, it absorbs heat that’s inside the fridge, and as it evaporates, it releases the heat outside the fridge. And the entire cycle continues.

Wrapping it up.

A mini-fridge can fit anywhere, and if you lack space in your kitchen, office or dorm, this is the way to go. However, you must decide on the type you want; one with a freezer compartment or without. There are a variety of shapes and sizes to pick from, and you’re assured of a perfect choice for your available space.
